Cold Challenges
We had some serious temperatures this week.
You probably all noticed the cold temperatures this week. Whilst these are a bit of a challenge for our polytunnel greens, and certainbly growth has slowed to a minimum, in many ways the cold snap is just what the (plant) doctor ordered. Freezing temperatures, especially if they extend over many days, help to knock back pest problems in the spring and early summer. We have had very mild conditions until now, so we shall see what the result is. I was worried about our young plants getting a bit of a frosting, but actually the hotbeds have been working so well that we have kind of had the opposite problem - some of our cabbage family transplants have been baked - that is temperatures for a short time got too hot for them this morning, before we took off the covers, and we sadly lost a lot of transplants.
However, we will get straight back onto a resowing, and hopefully not lose too much time - always something to look out for.
